What Time Is Jeffree Star Releasing Blue Bloods Palette
Hellooo!!!
I'm back with another palette review! I wanted to review this one after Blood Sugar because it is the second palette in the Blood line. This palette was released in Spring 2019 and I was so happy to have been able to snag one when it launched. I had never been this excited about a bolder color story.
This is the sixth eyeshadow palette that JSC released, and it is unique to the brand, just like Blood Sugar. It is the second palette after Blood Sugar and this one is a good counterpart to the red palette.
What makes this palette unique you may ask? When it was released, there was no other palette like it. ColourPop Cosmetics released their Blue Moon palette shortly after and many said it was a DUPE of Blue Blood. However, after seeing mixed reviews of Blue Moon, it was evident that Blue Moon lacked a variety of shades in their palette (i.e. some shades look the same on the eyes). With Blue Blood I had no such problem. Each shade is unique and different than one another. In the end I was glad I splurged.

Packaging
To start, the palette comes in a very cool dark blue uni-carton that mimics wood and it feels so soft and amazing. I literally kept the box because it's just so cool, unique, and different. The palette is in the same sized packaging as Blood Sugar, I can literally stack this one on top.
The packaging of the palette itself feels high-end and luxurious. The letters and design on the outside are slightly raised, but still feels smooth. Jeffree mentioned in his reveal that he was inspired by high fashion, vintage jewelry boxes, and funeral caskets for the packaging. I know not everyone digs that, but the packaging reflects what was on his mind.
I liked that Jeffree gave the clasps a makeover. Instead of two, the palette only has one clasp and it gives off that jewelry box feel and vibe. Opening this palette is such a pleasure because it's blue on the inside and has a large mirror. Overall I would say it feels very secure and weighs just as much as Blood Sugar.
Formula & Application
Obviously this palette is really bold, in your face, and not your everyday-kind-of-palette. Frankly that's one of the reasons I was drawn to this palette so much. It was different, it was daring, it was bold, and it was BLUE. Up until this palette was released, we hadn't really seen such a bold color story and blue makeup has gained traction since its release. This palette only contains three pressed pigments which are Ocean Ice, Untouchable and Blue Monday . The rest are regular eyeshadows which includes mattes and highly pigmented metallics.
Despite the fact that it does* have some neutral shades, there is little to nothing that you can do with those. In fact, the neutral peachy shades aid the blue shades and compliments them quite wonderfully. They're good for setting eyeshadow primer or for softening harsh edges. On my skin tone some barely show up unless I build them up. Even so, they are highly pigmented and they blend like a dream. This palette didn't require much effort from my part to blend. It was SO EASY!
The metallic shades feel soft and buttery and are highly pigmented. Cullinan is icy and gorgeous and amazing for highlighting. I also found Ice Tray to be great for inner corner highlight. Out of the metallics, I felt like Deceased required a bit of work (remember this palette requires little effort) but it is buildable and highly pigmented. Ocean Ice feels chunkier and has a bit more fallout than Entitled even though they both have glitter reflects, but it is a stunning shade and just as pigmented as the other metallics.
As for the matte shades, the entire first row are my favorite! They feel so buttery smooth, they are pastel shades (which I really dig), they are buildable despite being soft colors, and they blend like a dream! I know I keep saying that, but I cannot emphasize how easy it was to work with these shades.

Blue Monday, Flourishing, and Undertaker feel drier than the other mattes, but I was still able to work with them. They are buildable and super pigmented too. I do want to warn you all to use caution with Undertaker because it is a DARK DARK shade, and you know how easy it is to ruin a look with dark shades such as this one. I believe I also had a bit of trouble with Cremated when used over other shades, but I am looking forward to leaving the darker shades to play with another time.
Cost & Shade Breakdown + Swatches
Like her sister Blood Sugar, this palette retails for $52.00 USD, contains 18 pans, and has anet weight of 27 grams. That brings the cost per pan to $2.88 USD andcost per gram to $1.92 USD.
The embossings on this palette are really cute and this one has more than Blood Sugar. My favorite embossings are Cullinan (diamond), Blue Blood (crown), and Blue Monday (cloud).

After seeing the reveal, I could not wait to purchase it. I thought it was absolutely stunning, beautiful, yet intimidating. I was willing to take a risk with buying it. I was looking forward to getting Blood Lust too but unfortunately the color story didn't excite me as much as this one and her sister. In my opinion, it could've had more purple shades but that's just me.
Does a blue color story scare you or excite you?
Do you own any monochromatic palettes? If so, which ones??
